Pull My Daisy: Looking at Alice Neel's relationship to the poetic

Neel captured Frank O’Hara and Kenneth Fearing in paint, and appeared in an avant-garde film with Jack Kerouac. But Neel was also an unpublished poet herself. For this evening, Rochelle Roberts takes us through the gallery, shedding light on the relationship between text and image and how it feeds into Neel’s extraordinary works.

In this event, Rochelle Roberts discusses her current research and writing, exploring the idea of ghosts and hauntings. She looks at her relationship to the work of Francesca Woodman, Duane Michals, Louise Bourgeois and Rachel Whiteread which, years later, helped her deal with the death of her brother when she was 8 years old. This event is curated and hosted by Rachel Ashenden, co-founder of The Debutante. There will also be the opportunity to ask Rochelle questions about her writing practice.

Decorating Dissidence: Reading Group with Rochelle Roberts

Join Decorating Dissidence for an online reading group with writer and editor Rochelle Roberts. We will read short texts by writers and artists such as bell hooks, Louise Bourgeois and Lucy Lippard to discuss the theoretical, conceptual and political qualities of craft making. We will explore how we can 'read' craft objects such as quilts, fabric books and weaving. Rochelle will lead us in some creative writing activities and share some of her work before helping us turn our ideas into a tangible, collaborative online document.
