Streif av Fellesskap (Glimpses of Community)
Munch Museum (2023) What is community? The term ranges from widely, from the very close and limited to the open and abstract. One can yearn for community but also want out of it, and community is undoubtedly both important and difficult. For Edvard Munch, it was often difficult. He felt strong ties to both family members and certain friends, sometimes also women, but he was an individualist who constantly felt that society's demands stood in the way of his work as an artist. At the same time, Munch described the artist's special endowment as the ability to absorb and reflect the society we live in. The same is true of the ten contributions about community that are collected in the anthology Street of Community, which is published in connection with the art festival Text at MUNCH, vol. 2: Forms of Community. |
